Power BI - Leader in BI

As per Gartner's summary, the BI and analytics platform market's multiyear shift from IT-led enterprise reporting to business-led self-service analytics has passed the tipping point. Most new buying is of modern, business-user-centric platforms forcing a new market perspective, significantly reordering the vendor landscape.

The report aims to rank the BI platforms on the ability to execute and the completeness of vision. The Magic Quadrant is divided in 4 parts:

  • Niche Players
  • Challengers
  • Visionaries
  • Leaders

Trend Analysis

SourceGartner Business Intelligence and Analytics Magic Quadrant 2017*.

Leaders

Microsoft, Tableau and Qlik are again positioned as leaders as of February 2017.

Microsoft is recognized for the constant and fast development of Microsoft Power BI. This is the 10th consecutive year that Microsoft has been positioned as a leader.

Tableau has been rewarded for the amazing improvements made to Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.

Qlik stayed at the same position where Tableau and Microsoft improved their ability to execute and their completeness of vision.

Qlik is offering different solutions such as Qlik Sense for Self-Service and guided Analytics, Qlik Sense Cloud and the Qlik Analytics Platform.

Niche Players

Oracle is back in the Magic Quadrant 2017. Oracle Business Intelligence is now positioned in the top 3 of the Niche Players beside Alteryx and Birst.

Compared to 2016, Birst dropped on its ability to execute.

Alteryx changed from the top of the visionaries to the top of niche players. Alteryx Analytics for Governed and Scalable Self-Service Data Analytics is now available in version 11.

Oracle BI came back to the Magic Quadrant after disappearing from the MQ 2016. BI has multiplied the efforts with Oracle Business Inteliggence Clouse Service (BICS) and Oracle BI Cloud Service Visual Analyzer. Oracle BI is still a very robust business intelligence application to pair with Oracle e-Business Suite, Oracle HFM and Oracle PBCS.

Visionaries

SAP, SAS, IBM, TIBCO software and Salesforce are part of the top visionaries in the Magic Quadrant.

SAP is positioned as the best to execute for the visionaries side with SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence. SAS and IBM Cognos share almost the same position.

Salesforce has switched from a niche player to a visionary this year is positioned just below SAS and IBM. This is a very good jump and it's recognizing the success of this number #1 CRM solution.

Finally TIBCO software has been positioned above SAS and IBM for the ability to execute but below them in term of completeness of vision. This is an amazing progress for TIBCO software considering that in 2016 they were at the bottom of the visionaries quadrant just above BeyondCore!
